Scope and Contents
This collection includes photographs, photographic postcards, and glass plate negatives from Bertha B. Johnston, Alma Turner Moore, and Beatrice J. Johnston in Indianapolis, Indiana ranging from 1871 to 1934 and undated, regarding the Johnston, Moore, Turner, and James families and their daily lives. There are also a few other items including: an Otis Turner's Attractions advertising sheet; an article titled "The Great Birthday Party" which includes photographs by Clyde T. Moore; and a handwritten genealogical chart of the Johnston family.

Biographical Note
Russell Clyde Johnston was born to Norman Robert and Bertha Belle (Moore) Johnston on September 13, 1905 in Montgomery, Alabama. When he was 5 years old, the family lived in Jackson, Missouri. By 1930, they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Johnston worked as a commercial photographer. He was employed as an x-ray machine salesman at General Electric Co. where he worked for 31 years. Johnston enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. He married (Violet Beulah) Beatrice James on June 18, 1954 in Indiana. Johnston retired from General Electric in 1968. He served as an official for the Indianapolis 500 for nearly 2 decades. Russell Johnston died of prostate cancer on October 11, 1983 and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
(Violet Beulah) Beatrice James was born on April 27, 1911 in La Cross, Wisconsin to James W. and Addie (Mendenhall) James. She worked as a stenographer in 1930 and 1940 while living with her mother and sister in Indianapolis. Later she had a job as an insurance underwriter and worked for Home Insurance Co., retiring in 1973. Beatrice Johnston died 14 years after her husband of pneumonia on September 4, 1997 and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Bertha Belle Moore was born on June 13, 1878 to William R. (1850-1933) and Alma (Turner) Moore in Rushville, Indiana. She had two brothers, Clyde Turner (1875-1948) and Raymond E. Moore (1894-1922). Moore married Norman Robert Johnston (1872-1958) on December 25, 1902 and they had one son, Russell Clyde (1905-1983). She worked as a buyer for L.S. Ayres and Company. Bertha Johnston died on July 24, 1973 in Indianapolis, Indiana and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery with her husband.
