Scope and Contents
The collection contains U.S. Civil War materials of David L. Elliott. Included are family correspondence, discharge papers, family photographs, a Bible, receipts, distribution rolls, certificates, reunion ribbons, political campaign badges, and a Civil War diary (1864–1865). The collection also contains a history of the Battle of Chickamauga by Captain J. C. McElroy. There is also an 1865 muster-out roll for the 75th Regiment and Warren County postmaster appointment certificates from 1898 and 1902 (OBD042).

Biographical Note
Captain David L. Elliott was born in Randolph County, North Carolina in 1835. Eventually Elliott moved to Salamonie Township, Huntington County, Indiana in 1844. With the outbreak of the American Civil War, Elliott enlisted into the Union Army on April 18, 1861, and re-enlisted in August 1862. Elliott served in Company E, 75th Indiana Regiment, under Capt. David Wall. After the war, Elliott married Martha Morrison in 1865 and they had three children: George, Rufus, and Milton. Elliott died on August 8, 1915 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Warren, Indiana.
