Biographical Note
Katharine L. (Watson) Atkins was born June 12, 1902 to Phileman Mitchell and Genevieve M. (Bassel) Watson in Indianapolis, Indiana. On Febrary 18, 1922, she married Elias Cornelius Atkins (II), son of Henry C. and Sue (Winter) Atkins, on February 18, 1922 in Marion County, Indiana. They had two children together: Elias C. (III) and Ann Paxton. Her husband became the head of E.C. Atkins & Company, a world-renowned saw manufacturer founded in Indianapolis in 1856-1857 by his grandfather, for whom he was named. Katharine Atkins died in Indianapolis on July 20, 1993 and was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
