Scope and Contents
This collection contains two military commission certificates for the appointment of Robert F. Scott as assistant inspector general of the Indiana Legion. The first certificate was signed by Governor Alvin P. Hovey on June 23, 1890 and gave Scott the rank of captain. The second certificate was signed by Governor Ira J. Chase on February 12, 1892 and promoted Scott to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Biographical Note
Robert F. Scott was born in June, 1856 in Newton-Cunningham, near Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. He came to the United States in 1870 and arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1877. He married Martha Ross on January 29, 1880 and they had four children. He was a member of the Indianapolis Board of Trade and engaged in the grain brokerage business. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1914 and died there at the age of 83 year on December 12, 1939.
