Historical Note

U.S. Vice President Schuyler Colfax visited Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 25, 1870 for the 25th anniversary of the Friendship Division, No. 19, Sons of Temperance. He gave a speech at the Academy of Music during his visit and Independence Hall was tendered to the vice president for his use during the visit.
