Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The bulk of this collection consists of Albert Mock's unpublished manuscripts, "Three Centuries of Hoosier Education" and "Three Centuries American Life" compiled and written circa 1960. The collection includes typewritten drafts; typewritten and handwritten rough drafts; newspaper clippings; research notes; and various publications regarding education ranging from 1856 to 1967. Items of note include a copy of the 1856 "A Sketch of the Educational History of Wayne County, and the Proceedings of the Wayne County Teacher's Institute"; an 1882 Kansas Normal College commencement program; biographical information regarding Purdue University and Indiana University presidents; biographical notes on Indiana Superintendents of Public Instruction from 1850s to early 1900s; full page clippings of the Pathfinder newspaper published in Washington D.C. ranging from 1908 to 1918 and undated; a copy of the Indiana State Normal School The Normal Advance 1907 commencement edition; and the Liberty Baptist Church's centennial booklet from 1954 (Tipton County, Indiana).
Also included is a 1879 handwritten Taswell, Indiana New Year's Day infare speech; correspondence, architectural drawings, and documents regarding the lighting, shelving, and doors of the Indiana State Library (1930s-1950s); Indiana State Library correspondence and documents regarding archival storage and a proposed central book depository (1945-1948); correspondence to Edward D. Pierre and his 1945 Data Book regarding the State Library; publications regarding the Indiana State Library building (1934-1955) and Indiana Historical Bureau publications of Indiana history including a tourist map of historical places drawn by George Jo Mess (circa 1936-1948); a album with floor plans, exterior designs, and landscaping for William Creek Estates homes designed for the Indianapolis News Ideal Home contest by architects Pierre and Wright and landscape architect Donald B. Johnston (circa 1925); documents and reports regarding Indianapolis traffic, parking, and civic planning (1951-1960); photographs of homes built in Warsaw, Indiana and American Homes on Emerson Avenue in Indianapolis (?) (circa 1940s); and the September, 1935 edition of American Architectt magazine with photographs of the Fendrick's Peasant Room of Indianapolis designed by Pierre and Wright.
