Scope and Contents

From the Collection: Items in this collection consist largely of photocopies of original articles, catalogs, and photographs used in the research and creation of the exhibit, Wooton Patent Desks: A Place for Everything and Everything in Its Place at the Indiana State Museum in 1983. Included are articles, advertisements, catalogs, and other historical information regarding the Wooton Desk Company and other contemporary furniture makers in Indiana. There is background information on William S. Wooton, the Wooton Desk Company, and one of his employees, Zue Jackson, as well as background information on Haynes, Spencer and Company and their employees. Other material includes administrative files surrounding the creation of the exhibit, such as Indiana State Museum's correspondence about the acquisition and treatment of Wooton desks, notes, forms, drafts, and other documents that went into the preparation of the exhibit. There are also several photographs of Wooton desks including one photograph of William S. Wooton and his granddaughters.
