File — Box: 1, Folder: 7
Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection includes a scrapbook created by Nancy L. (Sutton) Moody Cross of Angola, Indiana documenting her husband Orville Haines Moody's political career, with materials ranging from 1934 to 2019. Within the scrapbook's first page, a photograph of James A. Moody, Orville's grandfather, and a note states, "James A. Moody, elected to the Indiana State Legislature exactly 50 years to the day before Orville. He won the nomination on May 8, 1934 and Orville won the nomination on May 8, 1984."
Moody's campaign advertising cards, pamphlets and newspaper clippings comprise a majority of the scrapbook. Also included is correspondence from family, friends, religious institutions, organizations and political figures regading his candidacy. There are also several photographs of Moody with politicians and the House legislative chamber during the 1980s. Congratulatory letters from U.S. Senator Dan Quayle; Indiana Lieutenant-Governor John M. Mutz; Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, J. Roberts Dailey; Indianapolis Mayor William H. Hudnut III; and Indiana Governor Robert D. Orr are included. There are also two autographed photographs of Moody and U.S. Senator Birch Bayh. Newspaper clippings follow Moody's legislative work and voting record during 1985-1989 and memorialization efforts for Moody after his death.
There are also political buttons, lapel pins, and name tags (circa 1950-1989); 2 photographs of Moody with Hoosier politicians (circa 1970-1986); and an electronic roll-call voting mechanism from the Indiana House of Representatives chamber. An oversize folder contains House resolutions regarding Moody (1988-1989), his Sagamore of the Wabash (1988); a Christmas gift, wooden plaque and card, from Indiana Speaker J. Roberts Dailey (1987); and a 1985 poster of the Indiana House of Represntatives (OBC091).
