Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This collection includes tintype, daguerreotype, ambrotype, and carte de visite portrait photographs of numerous individuals from Indiana ranging from circa 1840 to 1876 regarding Union soldiers who served during the U.S. Civil War and a few men and women who settled in the state during the mid-19th century. There is also a large indistinguishable daguerreotype photograph of a possible Sunday School celebration on July 4, 1850 at Col. James Blake's home on the northwest corner of Capitol Avenue and North Street in Indianapolis, as well as a glass lantern slide depicting the Hendricks House at the 1500 block of South New Jersey Street in Indianapolis.
