From the Collection:
This collection includes 16 volumes containing the diaries of William Wilson of Clinton County, Indiana. Ranging from 1880 to 1920, the diary entries include descriptions of farm life, social activities, and economic conditions along with personal finance notations and copies of affidavits regarding his disablity from his service in the Civil War. The first volume was originally a ledger used in 1859 and Wilson's first diary entry on December 29, 1880 mentions that he went to visit Sam Holiday and Sam gave him the ledger. In addition to diary entries, the second volume contains Wilson's August 4, 1865 discharge paper from the 154th Regiment and the fourth volume has a photograph of an older gentleman with "William Wilson" written below but partially crossed out.
