Abstracts, 1965 (folder 2 of 2)

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 5

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This collection contains title abstracts created by the Union Title Company for various clients in Indianapolis. Each abstract tracks the ownership of the property from its earliest known owner. Files begin with a historical note that details how the property went from French possession in 1763, to the creation of the state of Indiana in 1820.

Abstracts contain pertinent legal information about the property such as: legal descriptions of the property, plat maps, copies of deeds, sale and payment information, wills and probate records, court records, property assessments, foreclosures and liens, taxes, and zoning ordinances. If an abstract had previously been created for the property, a certificate by the contracted company is also included. Each abstract ends with a certificate of guarantee by the Union Title Company stating the accuracy of their work. Certificates of guarantee, for both the Union Title Company as well as other title companies, often include a listing of institutions where the property information was researched.
