The collection includes Landgrebe's Congressional papers, including correspondence, reports, and legislation regarding the Consumer Protection Act (1974), the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (1973), the Food and Drug Administration, the Tax Reform Act (1969), the Pollution Control Act (1971), farm bills (1969-1974), Watergate, the War in Vietnam, defense spending, abortion, the draft, foreign aid, railroads, public land use, poverty programs, the Pueblo Incident, and other issues before Congress; papers relating to his district, including the construction of the Bailly Nuclear Reactor, pollution of Lake Michigan, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park, the development of the lakeshore, the Chicago South Shore, and South Bend Railroad, and grants for local programs and studies; papers relating to Landgrebe's attempts to distribute Bibles in the Soviet Union (1972). The collection also includes Landgrebe's newsletters, press releases, information released by his office, papers related to his election campaigns, his voting records, and the Republican Party as well as requests for publications, invitations, and papers related to his office operations. Constituent correspondence regarding military service, veteran's claims, social security claims, tax problems, federal patronage, civil service openings, and other issues are restricted due to private personal information.
Series 1 consists of materials created and used during Landgrebe's time as a Congressman. Included are general office correspondence and memos, correspondence between Landgrebe and other Congressmen, files used for his election and re-election campaigns, materials regarding official appointments and employment in Landgrebe's office and elsewhere, correspondence to and from constituents, press releases, speeches, and all files related to state matters. Most of the material is political and official in nature, there is little personal correspondence or documents.
Series 2 consists primarily of correspondence regarding specific pieces of legislation, legislation itself, and research and reports related to legislation. Notable topics are abortion, Watergate, the Indiana Dunes, Vietnam, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
Series 3 is restricted until 2049.
