Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection contains a copy of the weather diary begun by Rapin Andrews in 1837. After his death in 1849, the diary was continued by an unknown individual. Locations for temperature readings were Gorham, Ontario County, New York (1837-1839) and Perry Township, Allen County, Indiana. Rapin recorded the temperature three times daily. He also noted wind speed and direction, and included notes about the overall conditions for that day. Occasionally, Andrews included other notes about recent events, such as the assassination of President Lincoln and the death of Chief Richardville, chief of the Miami Indians.
