Scope and Contents This collection consists of Asa J. Smith’s manuscript, drafts, and notes for a biography of Hiram I. Bearss of Peru, Indiana. Bearss served over 20 years in the United States Marine Corps from the Spanish-American War until World War I, obtaining the rank of brigadier general. A few folders contain items for scrapbooks from Smith’s personal life and other literary interests.

Scope and Contents This collection contains a 29-page essay about Nikola Tesla written and read by Asa J. Smith before the Century Club of Indianapolis, Indiana on Tuesday, May 24, 1949. The essay was written as a "brief" review of a biography of Tesla authored by John J. O'Neill and Smith states that his paper was written from the "point of view of a layman in a field inscrutable even to many experts."

Scope and Contents The collection contains a transcript and a reel-to-reel audiotape of an oral history interview with Asa J. Smith conducted by Thomas Krasean on March 20, 1969. During the interview, Smith discusses his experiences as a Marine during World War I, Indiana political campaigns, the League of Nations, Harry S. New, Tom Taggart, George Coffin, James E. Watson, and Sherman Minton. He also discusses his association with the Oberholtzer family, including his representation of the family during the D. C....
