Scope and Contents The first item is an original letter on letterhead with "Our Union Defenders" and a picture of a soldier beside a cannon and stacked rifles. The letter was written in ink on January 30, 1862, from Lebanon, Kentucky, to J. C. Thompson's son Wesley, in Gilead, Miami County, Indiana. J. C. tells about the Battle of Mill Springs, in which General Felix Kirk Zollicoffer was killed on January 19, 1862.
