Scope and Contents Collection includes original letter handwritten by future President Franklin Pierce from Hillsborough, New Hampshire, on November 27, 1829, to Colonel Abel C. Pepper of Rising Sun, Indiana. The letter indicates that Franklin Pierce and Abel Pepper were close friends at the time. In 1829 Col. Pepper had been appointed sub-Indian agent at Fort Wayne by General Andrew Jackson, hence the letter was forwarded to Fort Wayne, Indiana
