There is one letter and the small yellow envelope in which it was mailed on August 28, 1873. The envelope is addressed to: Miss Lizzie S. Smelser, Richmond, Indiana. The letter is from P. R. Kendall, President Faculty, Smithson College. He wrote "To whom this may concern" recommending Lizzie who attended Smithson College from January 2, 1872 to March 2, 1873.
