Daniel W. Voorhees letters

Scope and Contents The two letters in this collection were written in ink and signed by D. W. Voorhees. The oldest letter, dated June 20, 1860, was written to Colonel Richard W. Thompson in Washington, D.C. about Daniel's trip to the nation's capital. He wrote: "I start tomorrow to Charlottesville, Va. I will spend some time on the way and will reach there on Saturday the 30th, and one of the chief pleasures I anticipate is in meeting you and George Hughes according to promise. David A. Rothrock letter

Rothrock in Bloomington, Indiana on September 18, 1907 regarding additional copies of the proceedings of the Indiana Academy of Science. Demarchus C. Brown papers

Scope and Contents This collection includes a carbon copy of an unsigned, undated tribute to Demarchus Brown, a typed, signed letter from G. W. Wadsworth in Chicago, Illinois in 1928 and an autographed, unsigned, undated original poem regarding Demarchus Clariton Brown. There is also a document appointing Demarchus C. Brown as a delegate of Indiana at the American Prison Association conference, signed by Lieutenant-Governor Edgar D. Bush on Octobber 18, 1917.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of a transcript and 2 reel-to-reel audiotapes from 3 interviews with Dorothy Gardner, conducted by Susan Bell of the Indiana State Library, on August 19, 1974 and February 16-17, 1977. Gardner discusses her experiences with the Indiana Woman’s Prison, as well as the changes she made to the prison and her various roles in the state government. She also discussed her family, mainly her children and grandchildren, visiting her at the prison.
