Scope and Contents

This collection includes carbon copies of "Warrick County Historical Almanac 1948" and “Warrick County Historical Almanac 1949,” both compiled by Thomas J. Dillingham, with the 1948 almanac signed and dated November 11, 1947 and the 1949 almanac signed and dated November 30, 1948. The collection also includes a brief letter written by Dillingham on December 5, 1948 and sent to Miss Dorothy Riker at the Indiana Historical Bureau. The letter was sent with a clipping of the December 4, 1948 Evansville Press article, "Silk-Purse Warrick County Resident Able to Trace Ancestors by Sows' Ears," which discusses the use of hog ear-mark records to trace family history in the county.

Biographical Note

Thomas J. Dillingham was born March 11, 1889 in Boonville, Warrick County, Indiana to Thomas W. and Margaret E. (Vote) Dillingham. He married Mary B. Southard on March 18, 1912 and they had 4 children. Dillingham worked as a clerk and carrier at the Boonville Post Office for 39 years before retiring in October 1955. He was a noted Warrick County historian and genealogist and had an extensive collection of Indian relices. Dillingham was a member of both the Indiana Historical Society and the Kentucky Historical Society. He passed away at the age of 68 on November 18, 1957.
